TB#10~Seismic Monster Experiment

Following RDB etiquette i’m bringing you this series a day late. This “Tuesday” Brewsday i’m revealing a few of my deck results revolving around a card that I have been repeatedly brewing with for about 2 years now. The card being Seismic Assault. My first iteration of the Seismic Assault deck was a pretty straight forward all in glass cannon build(which %90 of my brews start off being just because of my deck building style) which ran a whopping 5:1 land:spell ratio. To give frame of reference this first iteration was just before Saffron Olive’s Seismic Swans deck tech, which actually prompted me to cut Swans of Bryn Argoll from my deck because it was no longer “cool” in my eyes after being plastered all over online. I suppose I’ll show it here just to show deck progressions for those interested in that sort of thing:

The lands obviously make up the bulk of the price and can of course be replaced with cheaper utility lands of your choice to make for a super budget deck. The biggest weakness of this deck besides the luck of the draw aspect is hand rip. A single Inquisition of Kozilek or Thoughtsieze makes you question your life choices and how you let yourself get caught in such a position… But hey at least your opponent should get a chuckle out of it.
I quickly realized I needed the deck to A. be more resilient or B. be more explosive. Additionally, to my frustration, the card Countryside Crusher performs phenomenally when goldfishing but in reality almost every opponent is going to have a cheap instant speed kill card mainboarded such as lightning bolt(Note:can play around bolt) or Path to Exile/Fatal Push.
I tried delegating Countryside Crusher to the sideboard:

Relying ENTIRELY on Seismic Assault was fun until someone dropped a Leyline of Sanctity. Then another drops Pithing Needle. Cringe Apparently going more explosive by going more glass cannon wasn’t the right approach. At this point I gave the deck a break for a few months. Which ended up being quite beneficial for the brewing process. I was to zoomed in, and taking a step back let me look at some other cards, and more broadly other color combinations. Up to that point I hadn’t considered any cards outside of Izzet colors.. So enough of the backstory here’s where I am today:

I think the most exciting interaction here is Seismic Assault + wait for it… THE GITROG MONSTER!(+Dakmor Salvage) I mean check out that synergy. Discarding Dakmor Salvage to Seismic Assualt triggers Gitrog’s last ability drawing you a card.. orrrr.. not drawing. Try dredging that Salvage you just pitched right back to your hand and rinse and repeat. I’ve also incorporated cascade to mitigate issues that come along with the high land count. Additionally there was room to jam the Madcap Experiment/Platinum Emperion combo. With some sweet tech to protect Empirion in the form of Not of This World. Not sure why that hasn’t been picked up yet.
Welp that’s it for this Brewsday, till next time. Brew on!
