Since Affinity is a tier-1 deck in modern, and is especially well-positioned in the current metagame, it is probably unnecessary to create an alternative version. However, Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas is a powerful planeswalker and enough reason by itself; and sometimes we just want to play something different or try some new cards.
This deck is largely modeled after the Legacy Affinity list, with Day’s Undoing, that is seeing more play at the moment. There are many ways to build this, but my focus was on being able to cast Tezzeret, Agent of Bolas on turn 3, and occasionally on turn 2. That’s why I’m playing 18 lands, 3x Springleaf Drum, and 4x Mox Opal (along with 4x Ornithopter, 4x Memnite, and 4x Frogmite to switch the Mox on). The only other thing that’s different compared with a regular Affinity list is the inclusion of 3x Disciple of the Vault. This card interacts great with Arcbound Ravager, though I’m still not sure if I like it enough in this deck.
Affinity is relatively budget-friendly for a tier-1 deck, at about $400 USD, and the most expensive cards of that deck are also in this one: Mox Opal, Arcbound Ravager, and Inkmoth Nexus. So if you already have those cards lying around you may give this Tezzeret variant a try.
